NYCC February Special Event

Date: Thursday February 4, 2010
Time: 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Place: Woodhull Hospital

Can't afford medical school? Here's an alternative.

FIRST AID FOR CYCLISTS

Hopefully you'll never need it, but the more you ride, the more likely you are to be the witness or the victim of a cycling accident. Knowing what to do as a first responder or leader of the first aid team can be lifesaving and can prevent unnecessary secondary injuries. On Wednesday, January 13 and Thursday February 4, 2010, NY Cycle Club's Dr. Ed Fishkin (Medical Director of Woodhull Medical Center and Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the New York University School of Medicine) will present a seminar entitled First Aid For Cyclists. This useful 2 hour program will cover a broad range of topics including the definition of trauma, management of an accident scene, how to perform a primary assessment, heat stroke, head and neck injuries, lacerations, road rash, concussion and even what you should bring along for your personal first aid kit. A number of NYCC members have taken this course in the past and like myself have used it effectively to help others or prevent additional injury to themselves or as in my case, both.

There are 2 dates and you are welcome to attend either. However, we have dedicated February 2, 2010 for NYCC members but all are welcome to come.
You must call Denise to reserve a spot: 718 963 8569 .
[that's denise, not hal.]

There is a $20 contribution for the program. Light refreshments will be served. 100% of the proceeds will support the 2010 Kids Ride Club, a program designed to encourage cycling among the city's youth in all 5 boroughs. The program will be held at Woodhull Hospital in Williamsburg: 760 Broadway Brooklyn, NY 11206 (10 minutes by Manhattan from the Essex St. Station). Very easy to get there. For more information, call Denise at 718 963 8569.

Join your fellow NYCC members, meet some new friends, learn something useful, and have some fun. Have a night out, help some kids.

NYCC February Special Event
Sunday, February 7 - 10:30am

Just when you thought the party was over we're ready to celebrate the

Lunar New Year Dim Sum Brunch

Celebrate the Year of the Tiger with the NYCC. Traditional New Year celebrations include dragon dances, fireworks, family gatherings, elaborate meals, visiting friends and relatives and giving/receiving red envelopes. Come partake in some of these festivities and traditions with your NYCC family. Let's have a dim sum brunch, learn about the celebrations around us, talk, laugh, socialize and enjoy some homemade ice cream, in Chinatown. Friends, food and red envelopes - what more do you need?

Who: You, your NYCC friends, your guests.
If you're new to NYCC, what better way to meet people then over tea and a fortune cookie?
What: Dim Sum Brunch
When: Sunday, February 7, at 10:30am
Where: Mandarin Court, 61 Mott Street

Questions: Maggie Nguyen, mnguyen_va@yahoo.com, 212-729-7298;
Robert Duncker, r_duncker@hotmail.com, 917-836-1265.

The restaurant will be holding tables for us. However, since this is dim sum in Chinatown, you MUST arrive by 10:30 a.m. or else the restaurant will give our seats away. A typical dim sum per person cost is $11-15, not including beverages.

After dim sum, let's get some unique flavored ice cream, like lychee, coconut, red bean, mango, green tea and other "regular" flavors, too, at the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory. Amazing homemade ice cream!

You must RSVP by Thursday, February 4, 2010 to Maggie Nguyen, mnguyen_va@yahoo.com. Looking forward to seeing you at NYCC's first dim sum outing. Rain or shine -- the party is on.

So join your friends, bring some of you own and make some new ones at the February NYCC Lunar New Year Dim Sum Brunch. We'll have fun. We always do.
